BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
ON PAUL & Mary

AN INTERNATIONAL OUTLOOK perhaps comes easier to a couple that shares four nationalities-- German/Greek and U.S./Colombian, and who met in Afghanistan and married in the Netherlands....
Their paths crossed in 1972 in Kabul, Afghanistan, when they were both ministering to young Western travelers; he, a recently-converted "hippie" from Berlin (Germany), she, a Colombian-born "missionary kid" fresh from high school in Southern California on a short-term mission trip.

2) Denver memorial service (following Dec 2007 shooting deaths)

Married in Amsterdam (Netherlands) in 1975, they served with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in various locations in Asia and Europe before moving to the United States in 1978 to pursue further training.
After graduating with a Masters degree from Fuller Seminary's School of World Missions in 1982, Paul served for nearly three years as vice-President with Issachar, (at the time) a frontier missions agency in Seattle, Washington.
Frontier missions--taking the gospel to the unreached--continued to be their motivation when they rejoined YWAM in Amsterdam, in 1986, establishing the mission's Research and Information Department.

In 1992, they moved a team of coworkers to Colorado Springs (USA), pioneering and directing
YWAM International Communications to supports YWAM's ministries carried out by about 17,000 volunteer staff people in over 1,000 locations worldwide with information and communications.
Over the years Paul has served YWAM by tracking its worldwide ministries, collecting and distributing strategic information inside and outside of YWAM, launching the International YWAMer (now an E-zine edited in England), consulting and networking with researchers and leaders from other agencies to promote YWAM, frontier missions, and a WorldChristian perspective. (See current ministry activities further below).
MARY NOELLESEAN
Mary, a published illustrator, has contributed her skills to various mission projects, including many cover drawings for the "30 Days Muslim Prayer Focus." (see samples of people group illustrations). She also illustrates children's books, studied philosophy and works with Paul on YWAM Support matters. Noelle, 21, experienced a double loss in December 2008. She was laid off along with her whole branch office, and then got news that a YWAM friend from her DTS time in Australia and India had suddenly died at home in Hawaii. She went to the funeral just before Christmas. Upon her return she will be looking for new work (in part to pay off debt), and still hopes to eventually participate more in missions. Sean, 26, is pictured here in front of The Cleft, a YWAM ministry house in the Red Light district of Amsterdam. He has been there since he finished helping his parents recover following their car accident in 2006. Read more on Sean's website.

Summary of Paul and Mary's primary ministry activities:

    Ongoing Prayer Requests:

  • We travel a lot, and, following our 2006 road accident, are more keenly aware of the need for prayer and protection.
  • Please pray for God's guidance, so that we will make the annual 30 Days Muslim Prayer Focus (that we coordinate for North America) all that it can be.
  • Please pray for wisdom as we are involved in decision-making in financial stewardship and global communications matters.
  • Please pray for our financial support--for existing donors (to be able to continue standing behind us), for new ones, and for sufficient funds that allow us also to be generous.

     Financial Support:

  • Please note that YWAM staff people are unpaid volunteers who depend pimarily on God and His people for prayer and financial support.
