Spiritual Encounters at London Psychic Fair

The annual ‘Mind Body Spirit’ Psychic Festival in London, England claims to be at the forefront of innovation in the world of the supernatural, natural healing, and personal growth. Thousands of people who attended this year’s festival were looking for advice, direction in life, healing and new products to make life better – everyone was looking for practical and spiritual solutions.

This year Youth With A Mission had a booth at the festival, staffed by volunteers ready to talk with and pray for festival-goers. The teams were pleasantly surprised by how open people were to talk to them and receive prayers for blessing and healing. Many of the people who received prayer later brought friends back because of the impact of the words of truth and hope spoken to them.

The team would pray throughout the day asking God for specific people and situations He wanted to address. They wrote these on a large sign asking “Is This You?” Many people noticed the sign with its names and health problems, and came over to ask questions. At one point the sign read, “Rachel with broken wrist and hurt back.” A passer-by called Rachel who had a broken wrist and had damaged her back dancing noticed the sign and approached the team, “Is this me?” The team replied “We think so! Would you like to sit down for prayer?” As the team prayed, God healed Rachel’s wrist and back and she left the booth amazed that God would be so specific. Another woman passing by saw her name and situation next to each other. She had just spent £170 on a back massage to relieve the pain but it wasn’t until after the team prayed that she declared, “Ahh, that’s better!”

Another way the teams prayed for people followed a strategy called “Creation Prayer,” which involves asking God for specific characteristics about how God sees someone, in order to encourage and direct as well as bring healing and hope. Using the language of the fair, the team would approach visitors and ask if they wanted to know what the ‘Higher-powered Being’ had in mind when He created them. The team prayed for Douglas, who enthusiastically related to what the team felt God was saying about him, particularly that he was a “seeker of truth.” He left the booth excited about reading the Bible in order to discover his “narrow road that will lead him to the source of truth”. Even some of the spiritualists running other booths at the festival received Creation Prayer and then sent their customers over to receive the same blessing they had accepted!

The YWAM team worked together with the other Christian participants at the festival, including the “Jesus Experience,” who focused on spiritual guidance. Many times the YWAM team would take people they had prayed for to the Jesus Experience if they wanted to talk more. And the Jesus Experience volunteers would bring over people they had been chatting with for prayers of healing if they discovered a need.

Day by day, throughout the six days of the festival, the team grew in their boldness to communicate the Gospel and how their relationship with God was the foundation of the prayers and source of healing. This way, visitors would know what made YWAM’s booth different from the others.

Many participants at psychic fairs are so hungry for a spiritual encounter and attend because they are searching for truth. This year in London, Christians came to listen to their stories and questions and offer a bit of hope, support and encouragement on that journey.
