17 years - 42 languages - 30 days
Gathered in the desert near the Red Sea in 1992, YWAM’s international leadership strongly sensed God’s desire to call as many Christians as possible to pray for the Muslim world. Out of that gathering a prayer movement for the Muslim World was planned to coincide with the holy Islamic month of Ramadan. Through the last 17 years “30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World” has spread well beyond YWAM and now involves hundreds of thousands of Christians worldwide.
“The 30 Days” movement produces a prayer guide every year, now in 42 languages! The 52-page booklet includes current information about Muslim people from many cultures, their beliefs and the social issues they face with an emphasis on educating readers about the Muslim world. The chairman of the 30-Days International office says, “The “30 Days” movement emphasizes God’s love for Muslims. We encourage all believers in the Messiah to cultivate a spirit of humility, love, respect and service toward Muslims. Jesus died for them.”
This year, the month of Ramadan, and the dates of the prayer event, are August 22 to September 20. The booklet is available through http://www.30-days.net from over 32 distribution centres. There is also a children’s edition of the guide and an email reminder. This year, participants can also subscribe to Twitter updates.
International YWAM leaders who attended the meeting where the 30-days prayer initiative was birthed still believe that prayer for the Muslim world is on God’s agenda for Youth With A Mission. Tom Hallas, Field Director for Asia says, “17 years ago, God put in our hearts an intercessory burden for the Muslim world. This idea became a worldwide movement. Statistics in the Muslim world have significantly changed due to this prayer focus. I would encourage everyone to get involved in this initiative - and participate in making history!”
