Outreach Day 2: A Spanish Church Service

I got to El Paso late Saturday night and stayed at the hotel with the Kentucky group that was preparing for the drive to Creel, Mexico. Today, Sunday, I saw the Kentucky group off, and then reconnected with the Missouri group at Jerry's church. Jerry organizes meals, excursions, and translators for the groups that come to Mexico.

At the fourth service of the day, we joined the congregation in singing Spanish praise songs and listening to the sermon in Spanish. "Worship was awesome. The songs I knew I sang in English," said Amy Ferguson. Breanne Reid, another junior high student, agreed: "The worship at the beginning was cool - praising God at the same time in different languages."

During the service, a few team members shared their testimonies with the congregation, and Lily translated into Spanish.

At the end of the day, the group had a meeting back in Juarez for worship and discussion. Sean, a student, reminded the group of what they learned during their week in Colorado Springs: "Try to find the closeness with God that you had in Colorado. If we can do it in Mexico, then we can do it at home too."

Renee Miller and Kat Douglas agreed that they needed to remember and use what they learned during training. "Continually pray for each other because it will make things a lot easier," said Renee. "Keep encouraging others. It makes the team more unified," Kat said.
