When used in an evangelistic context, drama is a wonderful tool God has given us to communicate His message in a fresh, creative way. Drama has the ability to grab an audience's attention and, when done in pantomime, to communicate beyond language barriers. Thousands of people have found new life in Christ by watching a YWAM team do a drama.
One example: a YWAM team in Mexico performed a simple skit in a park. The mimed story told about a family where the father was an alcoholic, the daughter became pregnant out of wedlock, one son was a drug addict, and another son was a gang-member. In the end Jesus came and took the sin and shame of each family member upon himself and gave them new life. Some of the mothers in the group who had gathered to watch this short drama were moved to tears. Several came to Christ during that outreach.
YWAM has developed many dramas over the years, some elaborate productions with costumes, sound tracks and large casts. Some are simple mimes performed with one or two people. Some are available as packages that you and your church or youth group can use in your own outreaches.
