Main YWAM Page, or to YWAM CommunicationsTHE FIRST FEATURE film ever to be translated into the Greelandic language, premiered last month, will take the gospel to the country's remote coastal settlements.
Ninety-nine people responded to the salvation appeal given at the first screening of Campus Crusade for Christ's record-breaking Jesus film in the capital, Nuuk. More than a billion people around the world have seen the movie version of Christ's life, which has been translated into 435 languages.
Efforts to have the film translated into Greenlandic were led by Youth With A Mission director Errol Martens, who helped recruit voice actors and raise the money for the new version. "Because this is the first feature film in history in their own language there is a great deal of interest in it," he said.
"Already a television station in the capital wants to broadcast the film nationally, but we want to delay that until Christmas next year. First we're planning to train people how to use the film in evangelism so we can send teams out all over Greenland."
The country's 57,000 population is mostly Inuit, scattered among 70 coastal communities many of which are accessible only by boat. Since YWAM's work in Greenland began in 1985, Martens estimates the that number of evangelical Christians has grown from around 20 to 300.
