1. GERMANY: The Reconciliation Walk, a Europe-Middle East trek by Christians expressing sorrow for the violent Crusades - which they say is the root of ongoing enmity between Christianity and Islam - began on the 900th anniversary of the start of the first campaign to reclaim the Holy Land.

2. NEW ZEALAND: Churches are being encouraged to turn their attention to an overlooked mission field within hiking distance of their front doors - among the thousands of international backpackers who travel to the country each year.

3. ENGLAND: Prime Minister John Major has given his backing to a plan to add a British member to the international Mercy Ships fleet - Youth With A Mission's maritime division - which takes free medical aid and health care to the world's poor and needy.

4. INDIA: A prayer guide to one of the country's most revered Hindu sites says the place where people currently come to bathe in its sacred waters will one day be known as a place of Christian worship.

5. NICARAGUA: Christian relief workers are leaving handicapped residents of a poor fishing community high and dry - and the locals are delighted...

6. LIBERIA: The two women leaders of Youth With A Mission's ministry were evacuated - for the third time in six years - after armed rebels threatened to return and kill them when looting broke out as violence swept the city again.

7. NEW ZEALAND: Christians who work the land have found an unusual way to support missionaries who take the gospel on the high seas.
