PORNO THEATER CONCERT IMPACTS "ABANDONED" YOUTH

A ROCK CONCERT in an unlikely venue made an impact on young people who felt that the rest of the world had abandoned them.
Indent With severe weather halting plans for an outdoor rally and all other venues unavailable, two Christian bands visiting part of the former Yugoslavia found themselves playing two dates in a porno movie theater.
Indent Almost 50 members of the audience made commitments to Christ at the end of the second-night concert in Nis by Stain Me Sane and 5:20, alternative rock groups formed by Youth With A Mission teams from Switzerland and Hungary.
Indent "We almost didn't go back after we saw the place on the first night," said Stain Me Sane singer Joel Rogers. "We were afraid it might give us a bad name as Christians."
Indent But after prayer they decided they should return, and found the concertgoers expressing surprise that the musicians had decided to visit their country at all, feeling that Serbia was being ignored by the rest of the world because of the ethnic conflict
Indent "Some of them asked why we had gone to Serbia," said Rogers. "They said, 'The rest of the world hates us'. It made us realize that the embargo on the country had left its mark on people's hearts and minds, not just the economy."
Indent During two months in the city - as part of a YWAM outreach involving teams from across Europe - the two bands played a string of concerts, appearing on local TV and radio. New converts were put in touch with local churches which worked alongside the visiting teams.
